 Set in 1977, Shame the Devil follows Diane and Kenneth, an American couple traveling through Senegal who become fixated on a mysterious wooden figure covered in nails that they find in a market in Dakar. Though an elder warns them that the object is not for sale, Diane refuses to accept no for an answer. What begins as an act of entitlement becomes something far more dangerous when Diane forcibly takes the figure and carries it back to New York.

Once the figure enters their Park Avenue home, unsettling disturbances begin almost immediately—strange knocks in the night, unexplained humming, missing time, and the growing sense that someone, or something, has followed them across the Atlantic. Diane’s sister Drea wants nothing to do with the object, while the building’s elderly superintendent, Mr. Clark, recognizes the wooden figure for what it truly is: a prison for an ancient African entity.

As the supernatural activity intensifies, the family turns to Ms. Baptiste, a spiritualist from Kongo now living in New Orleans who reveals that the entity attached to the figure is not simply haunting them—it is infesting Drea. The deeper they investigate, the more they uncover a buried history of ancestral memory and spiritual violation. Trapped between skepticism and terror, Diane and Kenneth are forced to confront the consequences of what they took and the possibility that survival may depend on returning what never belonged to them.
